Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1857, Appel studied at the New York School of Art, New York City, with Francis Luis Mora and William Merritt Chase, and at The Art Students League, New York City, with Frank Vincent DuMond. Appel is known for his subtle, romantic landscapes painted in a Tonalist and Impressionistic style.
This piece is framed under glass in its original frame. It is also signed in the lower left corner. Originally purchased at a fine art gallery in Kansas City, MO. Retains its original gallery label.
